14 Year Old Has A Mayor's Attention

Colour Sisterhood Article Title

"Hey friends ... Cathy Clarke from our Hillsong Church in London forwarded this story, which I wanted to post. It tells yet another story in the many stories of everyday women and "girls", who are simply taking what is in their hand and using it for good. I love (yet again) the domino effect and thought it was so very cool how the local mayor then got on board with one of our important Sisterhood causes, simply because he was made aware.

If you have similar stories we would love to hear them, so we can inspire one another.

Take care always, Bobbie"

14 Year Old Has A Mayor's Attention

Hello, my name is Holly and I am 14 years old. I go to the extension service of Hillsong Church in Ireland.

I attend Junior High School and we recently held a charity day in aid of three charities. As I was one of four girls organising the day, I nominated 'The A21 Campaign' to receive a third of the money collected. The British Heart Foundation and the Special Olympics were the other charities nominated.

To raise the money we held a sports themed day, and everyone in our school were asked to donate £2 to the cause. Also, to raise more awareness we gave out free smoothies and chocolate-covered strawberries. Everyone enjoyed the day and a lot of pupils were curious as to what 'The A21 Campaign' was about , and I was more than glad to tell them!

A special assembly was held at my school, and representatives from the different charities came in. Helen Cupples came from The A21 Campaign. She is an inspirational woman who does so much for the church and for other people! Helen received a cheque of £240 that will be given to The A21 Campaign. A photographer from the local newspaper came in, and there will be a feature of the day in the newspaper. I was so glad to be given the chance to tell my friends about A21, and to help raise awareness. I hope to continue more fundraising at my next school.

Following the fundraising, Helen was asked by the Mayor of Portadown to meet with him. In the meeting the Mayor chose The A21 Campaign as his third charity. Helen has also attended other events by the Mayor, and there are many more events coming up.
