THE FACTS

Mumbai is one of the four major metropolitan cities of India with a population of 24 million people.

There are 300 000 children living on the streets of Mumbai. With all the help provided to these children it is estimated that only 15 000 of them receive any kind of attention and care.

Children living on the streets of Mumbai are often victims of human trafficking, being sold into prostitution and forced labour.

Vision Rescue is a non-profit, registered charity involved in feeding, providing non-formal education, medical help, skill training and other kinds of help to the addicted and abused street children.

Discovering that the street children desperately needed education and food, they decided to start giving them non-formal education. Considering the soaring real estate prices, they bought a school bus and converted it into a ‘class room’. They have identified a few needy locations and park the bus wherever appropriate gathering children into the bus. Two buses, used as a classroom for the children and over 30 committed volunteers help to reach the children.

After “school”, the children are provided with one nutritious, well balanced meal. This food is brought in by a jeep from the rented one room kitchen where the food is cooked for these children.

Since Colour 2009 we have raised all the finance necessary for this kitchen! Vision Rescue have purchased the property and are in the process of renovating this kitchen now!
