We are happy to announce that this project has been completed with amazing success due to your generosity, and Watoto is now looking to start a babies home in Cape Town, South Africa. Stay tuned for more updates to come!
The Need
There are many vulnerable babies in Uganda who are abandoned or orphaned due to poverty, lack of education and the HIV/AIDS crisis. Almost all of them fail to make it to their 5th birthday because of the much-needed intense care and medical attention that their immediate relatives cannot provide.
Baby Watoto provides care to destitute babies aged 0-2 years, giving them the best possible start in life. When they are older and physically well enough, they either graduate to a Watoto children's village or are reunited with existing relatives.
Our Response
Last year, women across the Colour Sisterhood hosted baby showers on behalf of Baby Watoto.
Because of your generosity, we were able to send 8,783 brand new items to Uganda in January 2011.
The great news is that we’ve received word that all the goods have arrived in Uganda safely (praise God!) and have been distributed to those in need of them!
Some of the items we sent include:
- 463 towels
- 3045 items of clothing
- 229 hats/beanie’s
- 548 singlets
- 804 bibs
- 318 dummies
- 722 toys
- 95 Litres of hand sanitiser
- 166 Thermometers
