The Need

Compassion's Child Survival Program in Tororo Uganda currently serves 35 mothers and their infants and is implemented by a local church in the region. Many mothers in this region are teenagers when they give birth, and maternal and child mortality rates are high. There is a need to support, edu- cate and care for the many young mothers and their babies who live in poverty in this community. Compassion‟s Child Survival Program aims to reach the most vulnerable children and prevent premature death, secure good health and enable positive early child development. It educates mothers on how to provide a safe home environment and age-appropriate developmental opportunities for their infants.

It also addresses high maternal mortality by assisting and educating mothers throughout their pregnancy and providing them with critical interventions where needed to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery. These programs also provide both mothers and caregivers with basic parental and vocational training which will ensure a strong future for both mother and child. Your contribution to Compassion‟s Child Survival Program in this region helps equip mothers and infants with hygiene supplies, nutritional supplements, regular health screenings, growth-monitoring and health education. Medical assistance, pre-natal care and nutritious food are also given to the pregnant Ugandan mums and their at-risk babies. In addition, immunisations and nutritional supplements are given to the child to ensure their survival throughout the first few years of life.

Our Response

As a part of our launch of the PETITE SISTERHOOD, we are hoping to fundraise for one years operations for this Child Survival Program in Tororo Uganda. The total cost of this program is £24 000. Whether this is through the Petite Sisterhood raising funds and awareness or simply by people hosting “a fifth birthday party” for a child that might never reach theirs without help.

The SISTERHOOD can partner with Compassion to assist mums and babies at their most vulnerable point.

*All donations will be administrated through the Sisterhood Office and forwarded on to Compassion.
