Facial Reconstructions
Facial Reconstructions
Since October 2010, 23 medical examinations have been performed, and 18 women have benefitted from reconstructive surgeries. These have continued to be organised by Watoto and are carried out on a monthly basis.

The Need
Gulu district in Northern Uganda is still recovering from a past of insecurity, brutality and oppression. The two decade war is over but the effects are still evident on many of the survivors who were either injured or mutilated and disfigured by the rebels.
Hundreds of victims are in need of reconstructive surgery and trauma rehabilitation in order to cope with life and resettle back in their homes and communities.
Our Response
In October 2010 five women started a journey of reconstructive surgery at a local hospital near Entebbe town – 30 minutes south of Kampala, Uganda. Since then reconstructive surgeries have continued to be organised by Watoto and are carried out on a monthly basis. So far, 23 medical examinations have been performed with 18 women benefitting from these surgeries.
Many of these women have testified to a regain in self-esteem and a greater ability and opportunity to become productive members of their community. Because of your overwhelming and generous support for these women Watoto has the resources to complete a back log of surgeries. We are grateful to all our faithful sponsors and partners who make it possible for us to restore hope and dignity to vulnerable women and the greater community.
