Ukraine is currently one of the largest exporters of women to the international sex industry.
The Facts

Over 400,000 Ukrainian women between the ages of 15 and 27 have been trafficked in the past decade.

Widespread poverty, lack of employment opportunities and discrimination against women in Ukraine has caused a large trend for young women to search for jobs in the EU.

Children were most often forced into prostitution or forced to beg. An increasing number of Ukrainian victims were subjected to forced labor and forced prostitution.

More Ukrainian men, women and children have been trafficked abroad and forced into indentured labor or prostitution than in any other Eastern European country since the Soviet collapse.
The Need
There is a very real need for awareness to be spread throughout countries of origin, so that potential victims become mindful of common trafficking traps and techniques. Most young Ukrainian girls grow up with no awareness of human trafficking, or the high demand for Ukrainian women in the international sex industry.
In response to that, A21 has developed a comprehensive prevention and awareness program which they want to roll out in the Ukraine including high schools, universities and community centres, to ensure the next generation is aware and equipped to confront the risk of human trafficking.
Our Response
We believe that prevention is the best way to address the problem of trafficking and we believe that the program can have a huge impact on the next generation in the Ukraine. So as a SISTERHOOD we are hoping that you will join us and raise funds to cover the costs of running this program in schools throughout the Ukraine in 2011 and 2012.
